Steel Spline Pipe Panels

Slag Retention on the hot face of today's water equipment is becoming ever more important slag helps protect the equipment from premature failure and reduces heat loss. The issues becomes one of developing an efficient and cost effective way of encouraging slag to adhere to the surface of water cooled components in the Electric Arc Furnace. The historical methods of encouraging slag adhesion to the surface of water cooled equipment have varied dramatically through the years. Bars, cups, angles, studs made in various shapes and sizes have all been tried. Some have been successful some have not. All have a common characteristic, they all induce a premature failure into the water cooled component which result in irritating water leaks. AmerifFab has designed and has a patent pending for a new and unconventional type of pipe. This pipe actually has the slag retaining device extruded onto its surface. The high pressure process of making this pipe makes the slag retaining device part of the base homogenous metal. Unlike conventional slag retainers, no stress risers are created. No cracks are induced into the pipe during the manufacturing process. Chances of water leaks are greatly reduced.

  Conventional Slag Anchor Negatives:
Interruption of surface causing stress risers (alteration of material grain structure). Weld cracking due to hydrogen entrapment. Human error creating a notching condition in the weld (Undercut). The splined pipe is the solution to the ongoing problem of today's modern steel maker for water cooled equipment. Slag retention will improve and the life of the equipment will be extended. Problems with slag retaining devices are eliminated. Overall costs per ton and downtime will decrease. The innovative Splined Pipe option along with the other leading products of AmeriFab, Inc. will help lead the way in reduced costs and production increases. Splined Pipe Positives: Slag bars are homogenous with the base pipe material. No square corners where stress can accumulate. Better heat transfer to slag retainers. No weld cracking. Human error is eliminated.
